Nothing can beat that sense of accomplishment you get when you’ve finished a challenging circuit, a tough cycling class or a tiring exercise routine. But what about taking your fitness victories – both big and small – outdoors, where nature can cheer you on with its stunning views, fresh air and natural settings? Outdoors, the adventure finds you. But where to go as a couple when you are in the UK and lusting for challenge and adventure? The range of options is dizzying – the UK offers everything from trails to open seas to diving to riding. Here are some recommendations for the best fun and adventure holidays in the UK for couples:

Sail round the British Isles

In the time it takes to sail round Britain, you could have crossed the Atlantic Ocean several times, but Plain Sailing’s 2,500-mile Round Britain Experience is the definitive 12-week exploratory voyage of the UK coastline. The trip features 60 stop-offs, Yachtmaster-standard training and the chance to earn a RYA Coastal Skipper. You start from St Katharine Docks under Tower Bridge, sail to Devon, the Schillies, Cornwall, Dublin, the Strait of Menai, Isle of Man, Belfast Lough, Kintyre Mull, the Scottish Isles, Shetland, Edinburgh and end the journey where you began. The trip can be shortened to last a week or two and includes food and cabin accommodation – a great way for couples that met at work or on eHarmony to get know each other better!

Hiking in Wales

A lot like the Scottish Munros, but easier to cover in a short stretch of time, the Welsh 3,000 trail’s most difficult challenges are its 15 peaks of 3,000ft or more and the craggy terrain of Wales. A three-day trip, the journey begins below Aber Falls, with seven peaks to overcome on the first day. After spending the night in the Ogwen Valley, the second day consists of a hike up Bristly Ridge, five ridge peaks and a stop in Nant Peris. Day three is the hardest slog: Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), at 3,550ft. The trip, organised by Wandering Aengus Treks, involves two warm-up days, making a total of five nights, with boarding in guest houses and inns, guides and most meals included.

The Hebrides on a bicycle

For breathtaking views and variety, the Hebrides is the place to tour on a bicycle. Here, you will visit several islands, pedal past white sandy beaches, blue lochs, mountains, cottages, medieval towers and pubs. Ferry to Stornoway from Ullapool and cover the six main islands, which are connected by causeways, within a week, staying at inns or campsites along the way.

Whether they met through friends or through a dating website Leeds, Newcastle and Bristol couples will all love these outdoor adventures this summer.
